I am Sthembiso Dabula the Wits SRC Deputy President. I am here to speak about the chief cornerstone of Young People Must Lead. It was through Comrade Sabelo that I’ve learnt that there are two types of people who push the agenda of young people, it’s genuine and disingenuous. He was the genuine one. He would always want to impart knowledge and share wisdom.
To support young people or not to support them, that to him was never a question but his true reflection. He was never a fan of squabbles.
Whenever I would have it hard in governance he would say, “Leave those ones, remember they are bitter.”
He was such a consistent, deliberate, and intentional man. He would always call just to check up on me, and the next day comes to my office only to ask me the same question wearing a suit this time. He would always ask, “Dabula, how can we assist you?”
He never missed an opportunity to let me know that he is proud of me and that I am a deployed of the ANCYL. He would summon me to Braam just to take a video of me eating and caption it, “The Deputy President is here, and we are discussing important issues” yet we were just having a conversation about my well-being.
One thing we had in common was love for Christ. I never knew that he was as spiritual as I am. I thought he was just being accommodative. He would always ask me when last did I pray? Mine to him, a verse I will always remember him with is 1 Timothy 4:12, it says, “ Don’t let anyone look down on you, because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech, in love, in life, in faith, and in purity.”
In him, I lost a brother, friend, comrade, and a future business partner. Lala Ngoxolo Ngubeni…
