We, the delegates representing the Regional Executive Committee, ANC Leagues, MKMVA, and Zones of the ANC Greater Joburg Region, held a virtual Lekgotla from the 18th to 21st February 2021, in the year declared by the African National Congress as the year of Unity, Renewal and Reconstruction in the year of Charlotte Maxeke.
We remember those who lost their lives to the COVID 19 pandemic and extend our continued gratitude and support to all frontline workers faced with the difficult task of saving every life during this pandemic. We also commit to supporting- ing all families where this pandemic has struck.
We remain committed to the eradication of Gender-Based Violence that has destroyed our society. In this fight, we are prepared to lay down our lives in the protection of our mother, aunts, sister, daughters, and boys.
We noted the threat of disunity in the leadership structures of the Greater Johannesburg ANC as a critical focal matter to disrupt and commit to fostering unity in the Joburg ANC Region devoid of factionalism and patronage, with the necessary revolutionary discipline as articulated in our membership declaration:
“I solemnly declare that I will abide by the aims and objectives of the African National Congress as set out in the Constitution, the Freedom Charter, and other duly adopted policy positions, that I am joining the organization voluntarily and without motives of material advantage or personal gain, that I agree to respect the Constitution and the structures and to work as a loyal member of the organization, that I will place my energies and skills at the disposal of the organisation and carry out tasks given to me, that I will work towards making the ANC an even more effective instrument of liberation in the hands of the people, and that I will defend the unity and integrity of the organisation and its principles, and combat any tendency towards disruption and factionalism.” – Membership declaration.
We recommit to root out corruption at all levels of the ANC as well as highlight corruption from the private and public sector organisations. We recommit to selfless service and to uphold the values we took in our oath as members of the ANC and to uphold all law of the Republic as contained in the Constitutions of the Republic.
We commit to regaining the trust of Johannesburg citizens through humble and responsive service and the implementation of the People’s IDP towards the transformation of society and positively impact the daily living experience of the citizens of Johannes- burg.
As delegates, we are cognisant of the focus on gender and youth transformation. We commit to strengthen- ing the priorities identified in disrupting the status quo. To this end, we recommit to championing the implementation of policies and resolutions of the 54th ANC Conference as we chart the way forward.
We the servants of the people of Johannesburg commit to decisively winning the 2021 elections with an outright majority to ensure that the transformation agenda and programmes we envisioned continue and reach fruition.
The COVID 19 pandemic has implored us to focus on innovation, technology and artificial intelligence towards economic regeneration to which we commit and maintain as a key priority for all delegates in this Lekgotla.
We will continue to build capacity, capability and political growth in our branches and support branch machinery to be part and parcel of the implementation of our programmes and projects towards transforming the livelihoods of our people.
We the delegates of this Lekgotla commit to accelerated service delivery in this Region as humble servants of the people.
We the delegates of this Lekgotla commit to holding each other accountable through calling each and every- one of us to purpose and reiterate our commitment to rooting out factionalism, patronage and corruption. We will never forget the clarion call of Mama Maxeke that “this work is not for yourselves. Kill that spirit of self, and not live above your people but live with them. If you can rise bring someone with you.”
We the delegates hereby stand in unison to adopt our lekgotla MAANO NA TSHENZHEMO. The struggle continues!
The ANC lives!
The ANC leads!
